Before joining Drishyam he worked as a Director of Patient Care Services and Consultant Vitreoretinal Surgeon at Dr. NSD Raju's Eye Hospital and Research Centre; Vitreoretinal Surgeon - Vasan Eye Care Hospital in association with Ranjini Eye Hospital; Affiliate Consultant - In charge of Retinopathy of Prematurity Clinic Co-operative Medical College, Kochi; Affiliate Vitreoretinal Consultant - Sai Darshan Eye and Ear Hospital, Director, Patient Services, Ranjini Eye Hospital, Consultant VR Surgeon at Ranjini Eye Hospital, Vitreoretinal Surgeon at Alphonsa Eye Hospital, Vitreoretinal Surgeon, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences. He did his (MS, FNB) Fellow of NBE (Vitreoretinal Diseases), Fellow of LVPEI (Retinal Surgery). The first Board Certified vitreoretinal surgeon from India, Dr. Biju Raju is currently the only vitreoretinal surgeon performing the most recent bimanual vitrectomy techniques in the country. He is the first retinal surgeon to perform sutureless vitrectomy in Kerala. In May 2005, he became the first surgeon in the world to perform No injection, No stitch and No patch vitrectomy for retinal diseases. Dr. Biju Raju also became the first vitreoretinal surgeon from the country to receive the "Best of Show" award at the American Academy of Ophthalmology and received this award at the Academy's annual meeting at Chicago on October 17, 2005.
